Will it work with my phone?

Read this one before you order. It is the thing people get wrong.

  • iPhone with MagSafe ā€” snaps straight on, nothing to set up
  • iPhone 11 and older ā€” use the magnetic ring included in the box
  • Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei ā€” also use the magnetic ring
  • Samsung and HarmonyOS NEXT 5.0+ ā€” not supported. The grip holds the phone, but the shutter will not fire the camera

The grip carries Apple's MFi certification, so on iPhone it is officially approved rather than a generic magnet pretending to be MagSafe.

Is my phone going to fall off it?

The double magnetic mount is rated to hold up to 3kg. Your phone weighs around 200 grams, so there is a lot of margin.

  • Line it up centred. Magnetic hold drops off fast when the ring sits off centre
  • Thin cases hold best. Thick or metal-backed cases weaken the pull
  • Clip the lanyard on. It is in the box and costs you nothing to use
  • Sticking the ring on yourself? Leave it two hours before you hang a phone off it
Do I need to buy anything else to use it?

No. Everything needed is in the box.

  • Camera grip with the detachable remote
  • Magnetic ring for non-MagSafe phones
  • Charging cable, cleaning kit, phone lanyard and manual

If you want to build on it later, there is a standard 1/4 inch thread in the base that fits any tripod or selfie stick you already own, and the magnetic ring works on both sides so a magnetic light can clip on while your phone stays mounted. No light is included.

Isn't this just a selfie stick with extra steps?

Different job. A selfie stick adds distance. This adds control.

Will it actually improve my photos, or is it a gimmick?

Straight answer: it does not touch your camera. Your phone takes exactly the same photo it took yesterday.

  • What it fixes ā€” the shake that happens in the half second you reach for the shutter, which is where most soft phone photos come from
  • What it fixes ā€” the crooked, cramped hold that makes selfies and one-handed video look amateur
  • What it will not fix ā€” a dark room. That is a lighting problem
  • What it will not fix ā€” a scratched lens or an old camera

If you take a lot of photos, removing the reach is worth more than it sounds. If you take five a month, it probably is not.
